The Åland stamp year sets off on 15 January with the issue of a stamp focusing on the 50 anniversary of the Åland Art Museum. The motif for the stamp was chosen through a public vote between seven pre-selected works of art from the museum collection. Guy Frisk’s painting ‘Yearning’ won easily. 19 February sees the continuation of the postal label series featuring old wooden decoys. For the 2013 labels, artist Juha Pykäläinen has illustrated the Long-tailed Duck. On the same day, the next stamp in the Passenger ferry series by artist Håkan Sjöström will be issued, presenting the ship S/S Ålandsfärjan.
The 2013 booklet is issued in cooperation with the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF). The booklet stamps depicting loons and grebes were designed by artist Bo Lundwall. ‘Spring’ is the 2013 postal stationery theme, and artist Ammi Krogius has illustrated merry sheep in various funny situations on the three cards
On 6 May, a mini-sheet featuring Åland cheese will be out. The photo was taken by photographer Kjell Söderlund. The mini-sheet also presents a new frame available for individual and business customers using the My Stamps service to create an Åland stamp with a personalized motif. The theme of the 2013 Europa stamps is Postal vehicles, and we feature one of the environmentally friendly cars used by Åland Post for the delivery of mail. Photographer Kjell Söderlund also took the photo used for this stamp
Appearing on 4 June are two stamps by photographer Tiina Tahvanainen, presenting Yellow and White Water Lilies. Two of the most popular musical events of the Åland summer are illustrated on stamps to be issued on 12 July. Photographer Daniel Eriksson has shot the photos at archipelago festival Island in the Sun, arranged in Jurmo, and at RockOff, arranged at the city square of Mariehamn.
On 5 August, it is time for a joint issue with Russia. The stamp illustrates the passenger ferry M/S Princess Anastasia. Hopes run high that this joint issue will prove to be equally as popular as the 2011 issue of a miniature sheet commemorating the 150 anniversary of Mariehamn, also issued in cooperation with the Russian post.
