The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to maintain natural resources by sustainable use, through well established regulations. It was founded in 1930, in Paris, by the French hunter Maxim Ducrocq and other 28 country representatives. Romania is one of the four initiating countries of this international body and is represented by the General Association of Sports Hunters and Fishermen from Romania.
In Romania, the history of the Cynegetic Movement began in June 1919, when approximately 30,000 hunters founded “The General Union of the Romanian Hunters”. The objectives of the General Association of Sports Hunters and Fishermen from Romania are regulated by the Constitution, through specific laws designed to protect and manage the wild living resources. The association’s main task is to ensure the proper use of hunting and fishing according to the national laws. Furthermore, its purpose is to develop the cynegetic cultural level of the hunters.
