Pioneers of Aviation
The inventors of the first airplane were Orville and Wilbur Wright. On December 17, 1903, Before the first airplane was invented by the Wright Brothers, inventors made numerous attempts to fly. These early inventions included kites, hot air balloons, airships, gliders, and other devices. The work with gliders in Germany by the Lilienthal brothers, Otto and Gustav (1849-1933), was, arguably, the most important aerial effort prior to that of the Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville.
