TAROM - 50 years of existence
Romania was involved in the aeronautical industry since the beginning of the 20th Century through people like Aurel Vlaicu or Traian Vuia. The TAROM Company, Romanian Air Transports, dates from September 18th 1954 and this year it is celebrating its 50th anniversary. At the beginning, TAROM was operating in just a few cities on internal and external routes, with the LI 2 aircraft. In just two years from its foundation, the company had tripled its transport capacity. In the 60s, it was modernized with new turbojet aircraft and 1973 it bought the first Boeing aircraft. This way, 1976, it operated with modern aircraft only.
In 1982, TAROM bought the first aircraft of Romanian engineering, entitled ROMBAC. Since 1992, TAROM began an intense process of fleet modernizing by gradually renouncing the Soviet aircrafts. Using an aircraft fleet of 5-6 year old top, TAROM ranked as the youngest fleet in Europe. It has various travel destinations to Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia.
For TAROM, the year 2004 has a special importance by celebrating five decades of existence under this name and this is one of the reasons why the entire personnel is taking efforts to improve the service’s quality (starting with the ticket reservation and ending with the final destination of the luggage).
The safety of the flight and the passengers’ satisfaction represents the main objectives of any air company. This way, TAROM pays a special attention to the service quality, punctuality and flight safety in accordance with passengers’ needs and hopes.
Other essential objective of the Company is the adhesion of one of the most important International Alliance in the air transport field: Sky Team.
Romfilatelia is marking this anniversary by releasing one postage stamp.
