Photographer Christoffer Collin does not know why his pictures appeal to so many people. He does not spend a lot of time thinking about it either.
“If I see a motif that triggers me and feels right in my soul, I try to capture it. I trust
my gut instinct,” he says, and explains that mountains and water are currently his favorite motifs.
“It is pretty flat in Karlskoga, Värmland, where I grew up, so the first time I saw a mountain in person I was utterly fascinated.”
Christoffer Collin had never been interested in photography, but during a trip to Thailand in the autumn of 2012, when he was 28 years old, he discovered that it was kind of fun to take pictures with his phone. He uploaded the pictures to the Instagram mobile app under the pseudonym, “Wisslaren”.
Back in Sweden, he continued to update his account with pictures of nature.
“I biked around and took pictures of environments that I thought were interesting for various reasons.” Clearly other people liked what they saw, because the number of followers on Instagram increased steadily. He currently has 1.4 million followers.

“The Swedish rock band Kent had a song with a good name, Visslaren. I wanted to use that name as my signature on Lunarstorm when I was 16.” Lunarstorm was one of the first meeting places on the web where teenagers chatted with one another, but the name “Visslaren” was already taken. “I had to be ‘Wisslaren’ and that signature has followed me.”
