Beautiful Netherlands 2016: Fishing Villages
The collective sheet of Beautiful Netherlands 2016 you will find typical objects and buildings of five fishing villages. These are the fishing villages Arnemuiden, Urk, Scheveningen, Zoutkamp and Volendam. On each stamp is a fish showing: partly on the stamp itself and partly on the background of the skin. Swim in the sea, other fish, including two pegs, a mussel, a dab, two sand eels, two shells and two jacks. The upper and the lower portion of each stamp are connected with each other by a traditional fishing net with a contemporary, bright color which is different for every fisherman place. On the top half of the collective sheet are typical facades of houses depicted in several fishing villages and each fishing village there waving the flag. Between the houses the statue of Gerard Bakker fisherwoman on the lookout. The stamp sheetlet Beautiful Netherlands 2016 is designed by Birza Design in Deventer. The selection of the five fishing villages was made in consultation between PostNL, the Dutch Centre for Folk Culture and intangible heritage and the designers.
